How the Elections Process Works
Eligibility to vote
All 2019 and 2020 Members in good standing are eligible to vote in the election.
Nominations
Nominations are open now through the Lead Pack meeting on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. All candidates must accept their nominations in person at this meeting. The meeting will be held at 7pm at 2021 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, Lower Level Conference Room. Once nominations are closed, no additional candidates will be accepted. Write-in candidacies are not permitted.
If you are a 2019 or 2020 Member in good standing you may self-nominate or nominate another eligible member. If you are plan to nominate someone other than yourself, please speak with that person first. Secure their permission and make sure they are indeed interested in joining the Lead Pack.
Contested Election Process
The election runs for two weeks in January, concluding at the Annual Meeting and is conducted online. All eligible voters will receive an invitation to vote via email. This email will contain a special one-time use link to the voting site. Voting will begin on Saturday, January 11, 2020 and conclude at the Annual Meeting, which will be held at The Saloon (Fire Bar) on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Members who lack Internet access will be given the opportunity to vote in person at the beginning of the Annual Meeting.
Voting is done by ranking the candidates in order of preference. Candidates are seated according to their numerical performance – the candidate that performed the best is seated first, the next best is seated next and so forth until all seats are filled.
When the voting period ends, the votes are tabulated and the results are announced before the end of the Annual Meeting.
Appointment Process
In the event that there are more seats available than candidates (or the same number), the Lead Pack will vote to appoint each candidate individually. A majority vote of the Lead Pack is required to appoint a candidate to a seat.
After the Annual Meeting
The newly-elected Lead Pack will hold an organizational meeting following the conclusion of the Annual Meeting. At this meeting, the new Lead Pack will select its officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer), designate committee chairs, and establish the Lead Pack meeting calendar for 2020.
